Happiness is a fish you can catch

Or can you? Raine Maida didn't think so, but I disagree. I managed to capture mine, hook, line and sinker.

The hook being a thin piece of glass, the line the medium to encase it, the sinker the sweltering heat to seal it. I desperately wanted to catch this little fish. So beautiful, shiny, full of New Year's Promise. Chinese chocolate wrappers. I could not discard them. The brilliant shine, the sultry contrast of the 'prosperous' gold and the 'happy' red. The conversation between the satiny finish of the cadmium painting and the slick, look-at-me naphthol foil. It was meant to be.

Maybe, just maybe, you can catch happiness. I can only hope that it's contagious.

  1. I love red. Maybe because I'm a Leo. Maybe because it's warm and passionate. I would love to have a red pick-up truck. I would drive to the dump every day. Proudly.

    1. Although my studio is full of red material right now (various tubes of paint, several types of plastic film, tin foil, fabric, glass), I have only done three 'RED' paintings to date. Yours, a pure abstract with copper wire and "Happiness is a fish you can catch", photographed above.

I have been told that my work is 'dark'. I suspect that given my European roots, that fact will never completely disappear from my paintings. Having said that, I'm starting to see how much I am influenced by events in my life and my travels. Expect to see a lot more red. It all started with a candy wrapper. Next, bright blue and green paintings with hits of orange, inspired by the dresses I saw in St. Maarten.
